Tree Maintenance - Part 2

Having a well-sized tree that complements your home can be a significant asset not only during your time living there but also when you decide to sell the house. Therefore, sharing tips on how to plant and maintain trees can be very beneficial for many.

The first step in planting and maintaining trees is to choose the right one.

One of the easiest ways to choose a garden tree is to search for tools like "tree finder" on Google.

For example, you can find a tree that meets your desired conditions by answering 5 to 6 questions through the following link:

However, knowing what factors to consider is essential, so let’s continue discussing how to choose a tree.

5. Height

The height of a tree when fully grown is crucial. Planting tall trees in front of shorter ones can cause the latter to receive insufficient sunlight, making them less attractive. Therefore, it's important to consider the size and position of the shade a tree will create once it’s fully grown.

6. Spread

Trees don’t just grow upwards; they also grow outwards. Therefore, estimating the mature spread of the tree is essential. Trees planted too close together may not receive adequate nutrients. Additionally, trees that grow outwards can obstruct key areas of your yard or cover parts of your roof. Knowing the anticipated spread of a tree beforehand is beneficial.

7. Growth Rate

Some trees grow quickly, while others grow slowly. If you plan to stay in the same house for a long time, this might not matter much. However, if that’s not the case, you might want to see a beautiful garden quickly. Therefore, considering the growth rate of a tree can be a good idea when making your selection.

8. Tree Characteristics

It’s helpful to know whether a tree produces pollen, attracts wildlife, or serves well as a privacy screen. Planting a tree that doesn't align with your needs can be counterproductive.

In the next article, we will explore the process of planting and nurturing trees.
