Ways to Keep Your Home Cooler in the Summer

The weather is extremely hot these days. Especially in two-story houses without a zone system, the second floor can be really hot. Here are some ways to lower the temperature a bit:

  1. Insulation and Window Blocking:

  • Use Curtains and Blinds: Use thick curtains or heat-blocking blinds to block the heat.

  • Insulation Film: Apply insulation film to windows to block out sunlight.

  1. Improve Air Circulation:

  • Use Fans: Use ceiling fans or stand fans to circulate the air.

  • Open Windows: Open windows in the morning and evening when temperatures are lower to bring in fresh air, and keep them closed during the day to prevent hot air from coming in.

  1. Use Cooling Devices:

  • Clean the Air Conditioner: Install an air conditioner for cooling, and clean the filters and the outside of the outdoor unit to increase efficiency.

  • Portable Air Conditioner: If you don't have a fixed air conditioner, use a portable air conditioner to cool specific rooms.

  1. Use Cooling Bedding and Accessories:

  • Cooling Mats: Place cooling mats on the bed to stay cool while sleeping.

  • Cooling Pillows: Use cool pillows to maintain coolness during sleep.

  1. Reduce Use of Lights and Electronic Devices:

  • LED Lights: Replace incandescent lights with LED lights, which generate less heat.

  • Reduce Use of Electronic Devices: Electronic devices generate heat, so turn off unnecessary devices.

  1. Improve Roof and Wall Insulation:

  • Roof Insulation: Add insulation to the roof to reduce the amount of heat entering the interior.

  • Wall Insulation: Improve wall insulation to lower the overall indoor temperature.

By combining these methods, you can effectively reduce the heat on the second floor during the summer.

I look forward to bringing you more helpful articles next time.
